I had an 00 S4.....honestly was not overly impressed with how the car performed when I had it,
though as a daily driver, it was a terrific car. It's a car that does not do anything
spectacularly well - it just does everything pretty damn good. For a daily car, its nice.
Terrific interior, and a nice stereo for a stock car. Mods were too expensive and frankly, did not
deliver a lot of gain, so I left mine to an MTM ecu, MTM suspension, some Oetteinger wheels and
that was it

Subject: [V8] Confessions of an S4 and V8 owner

Well.... in addition to my 1990 beast, I have an '01 S4 Avant 6 Speed.
My history is much like yours, but somehow I still managed to suck it
up and buy the car; I had it in my sights for at least two years
before it actually came to the US. I still want an RS2!

So now it is 4 years old with 48k and I am wondering if I should sell
it.... its killing me; its going to be brutal to maintain myself. I
love it, and yet the old beast really is a desirable long hauler by
comparison and easier to work on; I love them both for what they are,
but am unsure about taking the S4 to 165k. FWIW, If I spend a lot of
time in the S4, I really find myself missing the V8.  And I mean that;
the beast is one of my all time favorites. I think the 1995 S6 avant
has my top vote to date.

I sold a 1995 S6 Avant and swore that I would never make the same
mistake again; I should never have sold that car. So I am really
tortured by this decision. Believe it or not, I am contemplating a
TDI, but I can't get my head around not having Quattro, I haven't owned
anything but quattros since 1986. I am a complete junkie.....
