I wonder if that's why it is referred to as the "V8" in Europe, but over
here it is the "V8 Quattro"... Audi's way of getting around the US
copyright?

Oh boy, you opened a can of worms - Neckarsulm isn't
the original Audi factory...Audi originated up in the
lovely state of Saxony, not Baden-Wurttenburg (where
Neckarsulm is). All Audi archives pre-70's? are
located in Chemnitz. I know, because that's where I
did my primary research for my Master's thesis.
Lovely place, really, if you're into post-industrial
wastelands. Anyone know how Audi got around the Ford
copyright on the V8 production car name? It's why
Chysler? in the 1930's had to call their car the "8V"
instead of V8. Perhaps Audi paid Ford....

In any event, I get the "What kind of car do you have"
"I have two - and Audi V8 and an Audi Coupe" "Yes, but
what models? A4? TT?" conversation about once a
week.

Carter
