Friction pad...part # 077 109 495
Its a hard plastic (delrin?) bushing that the forked lever from the
tensioning roller engages. It does wear, it can wear through, and if it does the
forked lever WILL cut the bolt that holds that bushing in place. The result is the
forked lever drops down and has a not so happy meeting with the crank gear.
Since the crank gear will be moving somewhere between 750 and 6500 rom when it
happens....well, you get the idea.
I had it happen to a car right in front of the shop. I was doing a T/B job
on another car I know only had 125k on the clock, the bushing was worn through
and the forked lever was halfway through the bolt.
