I'm not completely sure how the temp gauge is calibrated, but after having the 
thermostat, radiator, and fans replaced on my V8 over the past few years the 
needle usually sits about halfway between the quarter and half way mark on 
the dial. I think this is supposed to indicate somewhere around the 95 to 97 
degree centigrade temperature range, which is supposed to be the normal 
operating temperature. Because of that I've always interpreted the gauge as 
being linear between the hash marks around the midway point, meaning that it 
reads from 90 to 110 degrees centigrade in that area of the gauge. Someone 
correct me if my interpretation is wrong.
