[V8] stuff....

I'm still lurking here and piping up from time to time. I have had two V8's
the last, a '93 just sold, and I am in withdrawal.

Ten quarts of oil is about right, with the filter. One of the reasons for
the large sump is that an enormous amount of oil is in the cylinder heads.
This engine is so much like the Porsche 928S4 engine that it is amazing.
Just after I sold my last S4, the buyer just HAD to go and get the oil
changed. He went to an "instant" oil change place and the Changer decided
that it was just another five litre V8, and put in about five quarts of oil.
The car got about two or three miles before dying.

I have used several different tires on my V8s, and found the best ones to be
Bridgestone Potenzas....whichever is available from Tire Rack in the size.
I always used high performance grand touring tires, in H rating. I live in
rural Maine, and never have used snow tires. The H rating offers sufficient
stiffness for any sort of "normal" driving, although I have had a lot of
people say that V rated tires are stiffer. The last time I bought tirmes
for the '93 V8, they were around $90 each.

I have never considered changing tire sizes for a couple of reasons. First
of all, it is the law in Maine that cars will have the original size tire
that the car escaped from the factory with in order for the car to be
legally inspected, which must be done annually. Secondly, the performance
of the car in all weather was adequate and more with the standard size
tires.

Now, the 215/60 tire size is becoming less and less readily available, and I
did think about changing to sixteen inch wheels, BIRA brakes and different
tires, but now that the car is gone, that's no longer of interest, of
course. (Then again, I sometimes wonder what would happen if I cam across a
'94 V8 with about 47,000 miles and all the service documents intact......)
