[V8] blue wire

The jackass that swapped out my alternator (well, it was me actually)
hooked the blue wire to the chassis ground of the alternator (I SWEAR
that is where it was on the old one, but obviously I was WRONG), the
batt, brake, and cat lights all light up.  

Took it into the mech and they pulled the blue field wire off the
chassis and hooked up to the proper field bold on the alternator; worked
like a champ, no lights on dash...

Would the loose blue wire cause the combination of the three indicator 
lights to go dim ( battery, brake and cat) ?
