Its not tough to diagnose at all....you described the classic "engine speed" 
sensor (aka RPM sensor) failure mode.

RPM sensor heat soaks while the car is running in slow traffic or idling in a 
driveway....the ECU thinks the engine isnt running and shuts down the 
fuel....car will not restart until the sensor cools off.
