[V8] Cold Feet Update: System on "HI" Blower on "Low" air feels
warm

Robert,
This reminded me of a symptom I used to have with mine. If I started
the car up and drive it a little, it was fine. If I drive it for any
length of time (or put my foot into it) I would hear vacuum sounds, and
loose the vents in the dash. If I then hit the 'low' button, I would
hear vacuum sounds again, and then I would hit 'auto' again and get my
dash vents back.
My culprit was the vacuum line at the back of the engine that goes to
the T (or is it a diaphragm valve...) on the fire wall and takes off as
a little vacuum line and disappears through the firewall near the heater
core... Put a hose clamp on the T and it hasn't been a problem since
;-)
Don't know if this applies to your situation, but worth a look.
Cheers,
- Jeremy

So at least for the short term I can make the cabin warm enough to stop
teeth from chattering.
It seems that perhaps the valve isn't being controlled well, but is
capable of being opened by the system.
When I cranked up the fan to "hi", the warmth of the air was decresed
noticably.
I did notice that the replacement heater core had roughly 1/2 the number
of fins compared to the one I took out.
I used Great-Stuff expanding foam to seal the core into the housing.
