[V8] A8 CV joint pricing

My buddy just bought a 2000 S4 (hence my new wheels), and we took it
down to a tech day at http://www.matrixintegrated.cc/ last Saturday.
They were showing off an install of STaSIS StreetSport coilovers on a
2001 S4; pretty cool stuff!
(point - I had one, what was it...?)
Last week, my friend let me drive his new toy. Pretty fast. Like Dave
said, I really liked the 'new' factor. I didn't go nuts with it as my
buddy was sitting in the passenger seat and I might want to drive it
again someday. :-)
When the B5 S4 came out, I wanted one soooo bad. At the time I was
working for a DOTCOM and it was my semi-realistic dream car (that was
before I was DOTDOWNSIZED). Now having driven one, I am glad I have the
V8. It seemed too small compared to my Panzer. Power was definitely
there, but seemed toned down from the factory. Guess that's why chips
for them are so popular (and pricey). I hear to replace the twin turbos
(around 80k), you have to drop the whole motor to the tune of $5k. Good
time to upgrade to the RS4 turbos, eh? It sounds like they are not
guaranteed to fail (kind of like the auto trans in our cars) and depend
on how the PO treated them.
It would be fun to set one up for the track, but I like my daily driver
just fine. Maybe my buddy will sell the S4 to me when it depreciates in
half again... Next year?
Cheers,
- Jeremy

I went to Sun Valley with a couple of friends for a day ski trip
Yesterday.
I did not want to drive because my Fulda Extreemos kinda suck on icy
roads so we
took my friends new to him '97 BMW 535 - which he just got for $16K with
40K
miles on it. It is the classic grandmas car. Spotless and looks and
smells new.
It turned out the road was dry most of the way and we could cruise
between 80
and 100MPH (with one blast to 120 :-) for the 2.5 hour trip. What a
ride. That
thing was so smooth and quiet it was hard to tell we were going more
than 50MPH.
Kinda makes me want to look at something a little newer.
Oh well.... I guess the V8 is still a pretty good ride and it IS paid
for...
