Let me tell you I have replaced the thermostat, water pump, heater control
valve, radiator I hate to say it but it was the radiator all along I had it
tested in there was no flow so start with that but if your not sure when the
timing belt was done you might want to check that as well.

Mine runs right at 100 or to the left when driving,
but creeps over to 105-110 when idling/in traffic.
The fan fuse was blown when I got the car, but it is
now functioning and the car still runs there. I'm not
concerned about it - it's a big, hot motor :-)

Im from West Seattle and own a 1990 v8 that would make most of you have a
wet
dream. only 65,000 miles! Sadly, my dad is not a fan of the insurance bill
and is forcing me to sell the beast. before I part ways with it i need to do
the
timing belt deal and fix the breaks. i would love a fan of the car to come
look at it or suggest a mechanic to help me out. I just found this site
today
and havent figured out how to use it yet. please e-mail me back if you can,
i
don't know how to do the post thing yet.

More often than not, its the radiator with the conditiona you
describe... 300 for a new one, buy the $%^$%^^% expensive bonded rubber
upper mounts (2), you may need the lower ones too. Buy a roll of 1/4"
thick 1/4 to 3/8" in wide double stick foam to replace the foam radiator
to support seal too.
To verify, find a friendly fire station and ask them to thermal image
your radiator (with the AC off).

Well we drove up to Burien last Sunday for the annual Audi Club NW event.
Very cool event and it keeps getting better each year. If you are anywhere
near Seattle, I encourage you to show for 2006. Every year the event has
grown exponentially and this year we had someone show from the Bay area, 2
people from Montana, a bunch of people from BC, along with some very rare
cars. I was a little disappointed that there were only 5 V8s, but I guess
that's not bad considering how rare they are OR how rarely they are problem
free! ;-)
Big thanks to Michael (pearl), Rick, Scott, and the 3rd Black V8 (who ever
you are) for showing out.

Hello all,
I just tore into my beast for a TB replacement and found something that
horrified me: the crank pulley that drives the TB has 3 cracks, down 3 of
the 4 bolt holes that hold it to the harmonic damper. These cracks run
along the splines from the front to rear faces of the pulley, which is
now held together ONLY by the presence of that ring that is (from what
I can tell) spot welded on. Needless to say, the car is still in pieces
and I'm trying to hunt down a new pulley.
I'm not sure what has caused this to occur, but I thought I'd pass along
the info in case anyone else is changing a belt any time soon. BTW, the
car has 200k miles on the clock...
Dustin

Lister's,
Its a grim day here at the house,
I have had a RMS leak for 6 or 7 months now & have
been putting it off till a time came that I could
afford a 5spd conversion on my low mileage 90 V8Q
since I got the car. After driving 5kq's & 200tqa's
I'm kinda usta the 5spd,
some times while driving the V8 I find myself going
for the shifter & clutch before I come to a stop sign!
But
I took the day off today cause as of late it's been
smoking more than usual cause of it being so hot out!
So I figured I would wash the under side of the car to
get the oil off the X pipe for the exhaust & found
some Red fluid basically all over the under side of
the tranny so another words I have a tranny leak I
think its concentration of leakage is on the pass side
where the pump for the tranny fluid is. It also looks
like it's leaking or seaping out of the bolt hols that
attach everything.
& the rack is leaking so basically I'm looking at a
mess under there. I also need to do the sub frame
bushings cause of all the oil leaking all over
everything! As I mentioned its a grim day!! Not to
mention I could use some new shocks & hardware oh &
I'm due for a timing belt along with everything that
Keith has on the Audiconnection timing belt list.
Cause this will be the 2nd time so I'll replace
everything. Man I'll probley re due the entire motor &
do a head gasket kit on it. But If I go that far I
will get a port & polish & see about more aggressive
cams & such. I know an old muscle car guy who could
rip the motor apart &
see about getting me some more HP!! OK take a breath.
But first I would want to do the 5spd conversion
cause of all the oil all over the place. I still have
till this Winter/Spring to do the timing belt. I could
cut the cost of Labor by taking the motor out & just
bringing him that instead of the whole car. But I
won't be able to do that for the tranny I'll still
have to drive the car to Virginia for Keith.
So as I finaly cut to the chase,
My question is whats the going rate for those who
have had Keith do it? I'll supply all the parts. I
have all most everything anyway. My 87 5ksq has the
5spd tranny (4:11 gear ratio), the front axles, the
drive shaft,
Oh another question do I need the shifter tunnel cut
& pedal assemble from a 200 car or can I use the ones
from my 5ksq? Cause it looks like the placement of the
tunnel is a little different than the 200's. Another
words when in the driver seat It feels different than
when I sit my 5ksq's seat & sit there.
I'm almost done spending money on the newly acquired
93 V8Q I got a few months back so to be honest with
you all I'm almost jumping out of my skin to drive
that car, & I just picked up this weekend a 96 A6AQ.
To be honest I really don't drive the V8 much anyway.
I got it 2 years ago with 82k on the clock those are
original miles! & now it has 92k on it. I haven't
driven it in the winter I usually store it,
it's just that when I did drive it it would smoke a
little but it being so nice out as of late & there
being Audi gatherings & such I love to take the V8
cause it's so nice. So another words if it's going to
cost an arm & a leg I can wait a bit to gain some more
$$$ for car stuff. Cause I have 5 other Audis I can
drive at any point!
I'm open for people feeling pity on me as well as
info on the above questions.
Thanks
Ron

Funny, Saturday must have been the day for Audi gatherings. My buddies in
the Black Forest had a V8 gathering:

I wonder if someone got a little carried away with air tools at the last
t-belt
