[V8] Urban Legend?

The plastic and vinyl products in the interior of every car "off gas"
and cause this.  This reaction can occur through the lifetime of the
car.  If you have ever had the opportunity to see the inside a
plastics/polymer plant you would be astounded by the variety of highly
hazardous, caustic and corrosive solvents used to make different
polymers.  I was in GE Plastics in Waterford, NY today.   We notice this
off gassing in vehicles because of the small closed environment and the
large amount of glass for these fumes to accumulate on.  I'm afraid to
ask what the composition of this gas is!!!

When plastics are new they do release chemicals which coat the inside of
a windshield. This is a why you have a "New Car Smell" when the car is
new, and when it gets old, the plastic break down. Heat, Time, and
moisture react with polymers in the materials of a car's interior
breaking them down into simpler molecules and gasses. Best way to get it
off is clean with ammonia. Best way to keep it from happening to to keep
the vehicle out of the sun, and if you do crack a window to help
ventilate the interior.
