[V8] new heater core leaks - grrr

As a preventive move, I replaced my heater core a few months ago when I replaced
the blower motor. I used the cheaper all metal heater core.
About two months ago I started to smell antifreeze from the heater, and finally
the coolant level dropped enough to turn on the warning light.
I pulled out the core last night and sure enough it is weeping out a tiny amount
of coolant at the rear (opposite the hose connection) side. It was drying up
before it ran out the ducts.
I remember the installation instructions for the new core talking about
grounding the core if there was a voltage present in the system. Basically
electrolisys will eat a hole in the metal core if this voltage is present. Has
anyone had a similar problem? Or did I just get a dud core.

btw, I still had the OEM core and I just put it back in. It is fine AFAIK.
