When you go to buy a replacement ratchet, you should
also pick up a "breaker bar".  A breaker bar has no
ratcheting mechanism, so it is stronger and is designed
to bust stuck nuts and bolts (and maybe oil filters).

And as someone mentioned, tool quality varies.  Sears
Craftsman is good enough for most of us.  Snap-On and
Mac are the Audi of tools -- expensive, but worth it.
Stay away from the unbranded stuff, as it will just
give you trouble.
