[V8] radiator to tranny coolant lines

My 90 V8Q auto has started to seep coolant around the coupling of the flex lines to the hard line junction (at the 02 sensor area).  A call to the dealer returns a quote of near $1k for both lines.  My question is this, has or can anyone cut the lines and replace that section of leaky hard line with braided/reinforced hose?
