[V8] Rear Brakes

Hi,
   I'm trying to change my rear brake pads.Can anybody tell me how to get the calipers back in. 
    I turned the driver's side clockwise and it went right in. When I tried the right side it started to go in,but not far enough. It still turns but doesn't go in any more. I'm turning it the right way,as it has moved in,but I need it to go in another 1/2 inch.
    I've been pushing in as I turn it with a pair of water pump pliers. I don't have the correct tool,but it's always worked this way for me.
 Any ideas?
