[V8] Dangit...!!!

In what has got to be the longest string of curse words since spilling a
mocha latte in my new Lincoln and all over my Austin Reed suit, I
dropped a screw and washer down into the gear selector.

Is there an easy way to get the gate off?  I've got the wood off, but
can't really see how just the top part would come off.

Please, please, please don't let this be a @#%$ fix....  :)
