Hey, Sparky!  It won't do that if you first disconnect the
battery.  :)

Another option is to take power directly off the alternator.
I had trouble getting my jump start terminal to budge, so I
used the alternator on my 200. The jump start terminal may
be less exposed to the elements. Six of one, half dozen of
another.
