[V8] Failed Emissions Miserably 1990 V8 Quattro Auto - Vacuum leak?

Zay,

I am guessing you have a vacuum leak. This would cause high idle and poor
running conditions. You can 'listen' for the whistle under the hood with
the engine idling and hopefully the problematic hose will be obvious. You
may want to clean (with throttle body cleaner) and inspect the ISV as
well...

Vacuum line and hose clamps are cheap; you can probably do the whole engine
for under $15. From memory, there are 2 lines that run from the throttle
body to the check-valve that lives under the radiator expansion tank. There
is also a line that connects the back of the intake manifold, up and over
the round 'honeycomb' air intake, and to the other side of the back of the
intake manifold. The other one goes from the back of the intake manifold
(on the passenger side of the honeycomb) to the 'T' that feeds the operation
of the climate control.

Lastly, check the 3 large oil breather hoses for holes.

Good luck!

I missed you guys. It's good to have the list back!

<<snip>>
So, if I were as rich as my car is running right now I wouldn't be
having this problem...I failed all aspects of the emissions test, all of
them. Results are:

HC ppm
Limit Reading
220 687 (2500+-300)
220 1208 (Idle 775+-425)

CO%
Limit Reading
1.20 9.95
1.20 10.62
