My timing belt replacement has been interrupted by a need to tune up and
employ my chain saw in removal of trees a windstorm knocked down a couple
weeks ago. No building damage, but a mess in the yards. Now the renters
will have a bunch of firewood.
Anyway, today I got the belt off the cam pulleys as described in the manual
and installed the driver side cam holder with the usual bit of trouble
everything I do seems to involve. The passenger side cam fixture doesn't
want to go on. I've tried to use a wrench on the cam pulley bolt as
suggested in the manual to move the cam back and forth, but I reach a
spring-loaded resistance just before I get the slot visible in the
distributor base (using a mirror) aligned the way it should be for the
fixture to slide in. Would it be correct to keep pressuring against that
spring resistance enough to get the fixture to go into place? Seems to
me I'm applying quite a bit of torque with the wrench. Must be in the
40-50 pound range.
