[V8] Transmission Mounts - signs of failed mounts?

I was told that if you can remove the air cleaner intake/cover without
removing the cross brace, your motor mounts are shot. My mounts on my
90 V8 must be shot :-)

Thanks for your replies, Dave. It has been doing it almost as long as I
have had the car (3 years), got progressively worse, and is pretty
predictable now.
2 years ago, I replaced the rubber exhaust hangers, as I heard that they
can
stretch and cause the sagging exhaust to rub on the cross brace - no
change.
When you look at the underside of the car, you can't tell any obvious
signs
of exhaust rubbing on other parts, but I will take a closer look.
Which leads me to my next question... How can you tell for sure whether
or
not you have a failed mount (motor, transmission, or torque stop)?
Thanks in advance,
- Jeremy

Forgot to add -
if the exhaust pipes are hitting on the car body - meaning they are too
high,
your problem is the front mounts have collapsed. BTDT.
