Just eliminate the 'killer' rod on the CC, repair only extends time before
failure! See:

How is having FOUR same sized (%) sidewall profile tires a bad combo?
The (sidewall) difference between 60% of a 215 width and 65% of a 215 width
is tiny.

Just had a very interesting moment in my V8.
I recently found the cruise wire at the brake pedal was disconnected. Cool.
Reconnect, and I have cruise control. Most simple fix so far. But only for a
few days; it switches itself off on the freeway, and I put that on my mental
to-fix list. This morning I nail it on a 40mph three-lane road with heavy
traffic and (you guessed it) the throttle was stuck open. I had this happen
once in a new Rover 75, so knew straight away the sensation of the car
wanting
to hit V-max without my permission, so after my inital two stabs at the
brakes
I knew I had to bail out. Hit neutral, had the poor V8 hitting the limiter
for
a few seconds so I could have power to turn a corner and off the road. Shut
it
down.
I knew exactly where to look thanks to this board. The cruise rod was
jammed,
with the bush that's supposed to hold it fragmented.
Now, I bought a new bush and was going to replace it a few months ago,
thinking
then maybe that's why the cruise didn't work. I didn't replace it, as the
original looked ok. So my advice is, if you don't know how old the cruise
bushing is, replace it anyway or lose the rod altogether as some here have
done. I don't know what I would've done if a car pulled out in front of me
when
that all happened...

Greg,
What I was saying is, get a spare that matches the other four tires on your
car. That way, you don't have a dougnut in case of a flat, and you can run
whatever size tires you want on the car. Just have the spare replaced at the
same time.
I have 10 wheels and tires for mine. Can't get snow tires in 215/60-15's and
My summers are 16's. So, I have a spare to match each set. Of course, since
I'm prepared, I'll probably never have a flat. But when I wasn't carrying a
spare in my 4000........................:-)

Lessee. The perfect machine gun bunker would provide protection from hand
thrown or otherwise propelled rocket grenades from above...a roof, in other
words. It would also need to offer the least potential for the gun crew to
receive direct fire from in front or sides or rear, hence very low, narrow
gun port or view port for fire direction.
In other words, the current state of automotive design, especially what we
are seeing from VW/Audi and for that matter most of the other car
manufacturers. Low roof lines, bulbous or slab sided bodies relatively
narrow windows from all angles. Take the Audi TT, for example. Yes, PLEASE
take the Audi TT. As I have likened it before, it remains a 1950's Hoover
vacuum cleaner without the bag or wand....or if you prefer, a rather cramped
machine gun bunker.
I was looking forward to seeing the Audi Shooting Brake concept. Pictures
are visible at the sites for the Tokyo Auto Show.
Another purely ugly tour de force, unfortunately.
I think the V8 remains one of the most enduring designs...too conservative
to be a big seller when it was in its model run, but my! How well the
design seems to have aged.
Even Daimler/Chrysler agrees! What does the Chrysler 300 sedan look like to
you? Why, a poor copy, obviously. And the original Taurus wagons looked
like...well, a poor cousin of the Audi Avant.
Now, all the manufacturers can seem to give us is mobile fighting
positions...and ugly ones at that!

My understanding is that tires need to have the same circumference in 4
wheel drive applications. Changing circumference changes the final drive
gear ratio. Tires should be *very* close to avoid strain on the drivetrain.

.. do you have any data that demonstrates what sort of increased stress
is created on a drivetrain that has tires of different diameter? I'm
sorry, but it does bother me to see this sort of statement without any
data to substantiate it.
Here is my data point ... I owned a 1987 5000 TQ which had the proper
rear diff but the transmission from a non-turbo ... i.e. a final drive
ratio of 4.11:1 in front and 3.89:1 in back. I don't know how long it
was in that configuration, but I do not expect that even this magnitude
of a transgression did anything to the overall longevity of the
drivetrain ...
The only things that I can think of to bear in mind ... the ABS system
does tend to expect all four wheels rotating at the same speed ... I'd
imagine that on the V8 the transmission controller might want to lock
the center diff on an automatic when enough variation is seen ... that
and the Torsen diff will tend to shift power away from the larger
diameter wheel.

Strange I had a blowout in my 4000 and did not have a spare either :)
Least I was less than 1 mile from my house hehe. That was quite a while
ago though.

I have never heard a TT compared to a vacuum cleaner before I am
laughing so hard right now. Great comment thanks for the laugh Roger :)
