Wow, what a trip! Drove to Coshocton, Ohio for the eight annual Ohio Rally
Tour Friday evening. Me and my co-driver Rishi arrived at 2 a.m. Saturday
and since our club president dropped out at the last minute, our position
went from car #17 to car#1 -- Hello 8:01 am Start time--. Despite our
efforts and my automatic watch, we did not finish first in the 250+ mile
rally, but did capture a very respectible 3rd :-) Not bad for the oldest
Audi there.
Penalty points were assesed for each leg, with equal points given for over
or under time. One point for each second. First and second place were 42
pts and 50 points, btw -- extremely close -- we were a bit over 300 points.
While this was an ACNA event and partipants are encouraged to drive an Audi,
the rules don't force you to do so. For this event we also had an MG GT, a
325 ix and a Federalized 1995 AWD Escort Cosworth! Francois Faloppa was
driving his newly-acquired Cosworth and passed me on leg two (he was car #5
with 1-minute intervals). Needless to say, he went to wait before the
checkpoint, but they saw him -- 20 minutes before he had intended! So the
rest of the rally his goal was to be first -- and his 5000+ points reflected
that :-)
Anyhow, the comraderie and beautiful scenerey, coupled with the fantastic
backroads of Southeastern Ohio made for a most enjoyable weekend. The new
suspension setup defintiely made the old beast handle like a much lighter
car. Drove down to High Point, NC on Sunday on business and stayed through
Friday.
Made a slight detour on my way from Greensboro, NC to home via
AudiConnection in Virgina Friday afternoon/evening. Met with Keith who
showed me some interesting projects that will definitely keep him occupied
when he's not doing his regular wrenching. Of course, we ended up meting at
a local gas station before he gave me the spirited drive through the
twisties to the shop, leading the way in his aptly plated 20VALVE 200. That
will be quite a fast ride when he gets done with it as well :-) Like the
rally look with the UrS4 suspension setup, too.
Keith showed me those clear front blinkers on another pearl V8 and decided
right then I HAD to have a set and Keith installed them on the spot --
really nice construction and they look awesome. Like a face-lift that takes
10 years off ;-)
I knew that my car was running way rich, but after Keith hooked up the
VAG-Com, it indicated that the oxs sensor was functioning, indicating a
possible injector problem. And the full throttle switch seemed inop. No
time to tackle these, so I bid Keith Goodbye and drove 9 1/2 hours before I
took a three hour nap in Ohio before continuing my journey home Saturday
morning. Well worth the visit and detour. I highly recommend them and I
know who my wrench would be if I lived out that way.
