Hmm... Since you have seem to have tried everything else, I'll take 
a wild guess at a possible reason/cause.  My '94 100 S (C4 body) had 
a water leak (probably clogged drains in the plenum under the hood 
at the base of the windshield) that ran down the wiring into the 
ECU, corroding the connection and killing the ECU.  My wild guess
is that maybe a similar leak caused not-so-catastrophic corrosion 
and problems.  The multiple removal/replacements of the ECU and
love tap on the original ECU caused questionable electrical 
connections to become good again.  

It's a long shot, and just a guess.
