[V8] Code for Audi Bose

Does anyone know how/where to get the code for an Audi/Bose radio in "safe" 
mode without paying a dealer a ridiculous price for it?  Bought it used 
from Force5.  Thought all the dealer had to do was look up the code using 
the chassis number on the radio, but they say they have to plug it in to 
their computer...for $50 bucks.  Can anyone confirm that that's the case or 
are they just taking advantage?
