Got a recall notice today for the KD and KF recalls, cruise grommet and
airbag sensor.
Called AoA (mostly to see if they knew anything about this) and got the
stock reply "Only the dealer can perform this work."
Asked what parts were involved "Don't know, we're not technicians."
Asked if I could buy the parts from them and install them myself "only
the dealer etc."
Asked if any of the local dealers had ever even SEEN a 1990 V8Q, answer
"umm, err, duh . . . "
Stated that I had no intention of ever letting any dealer so much as
touch this car under any circumstances whatsoever, I know more about
this car than they do, why should I let them work on it even for free?
I do know what the cruise grommet callback is - change one rubber
grommet on the cruise control rod (making sure not to drop any hardware
into the air inlet in the process).
Which module for the air bag has to be checked/replaced or whatever -
and what happens if it is not done? (I can just see the local - 65 miles
away - dealer trying to find the correct modules, tearing things open to
look around for them, and then trying to get this car all back together
again correctly - rotsa ruck, not on my car they won't.)
Best Regards,

V8Q, and they ain't touching it.
