[V8] road trip

Just got back from yet another Northwest Tour. We took the Explorer - like we
usually do because it has lots of room and is really quite nice to travel in
(1998 EB model) but the mileage just sucks. Usually I am pulling a trailer but
this time I did not, and still only got around 18 MPG average (70-80 MPH most of
the time). Not good at $3.10 a gallon. I would have taken the V8 but I am afraid
of the fuel pump. I have around 150K miles on it and it has given no sign or
failing but if it did I would really be hosed. So - when do these things usually
fail, and what is the best replacement pump?

This is the main thing that makes me hesitate to take it on a long trip.

Dave
