[V8] Sunroof woes

There should have been an allen key in the sun roof motor cover. I don't see it
in your pictures, but just find a metric allen that fits in the center of the
white gear.
Next unlock the lever arm. Now you can turn the allen to manually move the sun
roof. Position it so it is closed and flush with the roof. If the timing of your
motor is way out of whack, you may have to remove it and turn the allen key to
give yourself more adjustment room. Once the roof panel is properly positioned,
again remove the motor. Turn the key all the way in one direction. It stops in
the center position between flipped up and opening, and of course at full open
and full flipped up. Once you determine the center stop position, lock the lever
arm again. Now run the motor with the sun roof switch. You should observe it
stop at the three positions - full flipped, center (or closed), and full open.
Again leave it in the center closed position. Now bolt the motor back up to the
roof, and if every thing is working OK, your sunroof and motor should be "in
time". If it does not work with the motor/switch, you may have a problem with
one of the micro switches. I have had them go bad on every Audi I have owned,
but I have always been able to carefully disassemble the switch and clean the
contacts. This operation is not recommended for the fat finger types - it is a
very delicate operation and tiny parts easily fly away.
It should work in manual mode though - if you again unlock the lever arm, you
can operate the sun roof with the allen key as a hand crank.

BTW, a lot of this procedure is in the owners manual. The rest is in the service
manual.
