Subject: [V8] Balky Torque Converter
I may have finally homed in on my balky torque converter troubles. I
originally thought it was the tranny but then noticed my mileage would
drop by 3-4 MPG when the TQ was balky. At that point I was looking for
faulty sensors, though I could never get any codes even while the car
was doing this. Quite by accident I found that by goosing the throttle
under about 40 MPH while I'm decelerating to a stop and voila things are
all normal. So at this point I'm thinking that it must be a solenoid in
the tranny and my decreased mileage was from more friction in the trans
rather than a rich engine condition. It only happens until the car's
warmed up and only below about 40 degrees. When it gets warm enough I'll
do some poking around in the tranny. Thanks for all the suggestions on
my original post. William
