[V8] Give me a brake

... why are you equating the light coming on with tension in the braking mechanism?  Do you have any other signs of a problem (like the rear brakes smoking)?  I haven't had a reason to open this up on a V8, but on the other Audis I have seen the switch is just part of the pull handle, and yes, the threshold for the switch closure is very slight.  I'm pretty sure it is done this way deliberately to ensure the handle is fully down when you release the e-brake.  If you still find it takes a few clicks of the ratchet before the brakes are fully applied I'll bet everything is working as it should ...
