David,
    Cut a metal coat hanger in the middle of the bottom.  Then cut the
hook out of it, such that the upper wire is as long as the bottom cut. 
You now have two identical pieces that look like a "u".  Place these two
pieces in the 4 holes in each side of the head unit - then pull hard on
the head unit itself.
