Yeah, it's real easy to get to $5000.00 with a hit to the front end of one
of these cars.  The hood alone is $1,100.00; $600.00 for a headlight;
$400.00 for the wiper on the headlight; $400.00 for a fender: $400.00 for
grill; etc...  The prices for new parts get you to that totalled number
very quickly.

My V8 was backed into by a pick up truck, so all the damage was above the
bumper skin, and we got to $6,100.00 very quickly.  I was able to get
$5,500.00 out of the other driver's insurance company, and so I repaired
the car with some parts from the good folks at Audiconnection.  (Shameless
plug)

The adjuster was kind enough to take into account the exceptional condition
of the car prior to the accident, and then he sharpened his pencil.

I would go back and see what the insurance company might do if you show
them some receipts for recent work done to the car; and can find some
comparable cars that are for sale above the $2800 to 3500 range.

Speaking of that, does anyone know if that 1993 on Ebay that Roger was
admiring really sold for $2500.00?   Seems like a really good deal for a
1993?  Looked like a pretty nice example.
