[V8] Charging question

If the idle is normal, and the belt is not slipping, and the usual
electrical issues all check out OK - like the battery to alt
connection, alternator sense connection, etc, then you could have a
bad winding or toasted diode or shorting (as opposed to shorted)
rotor coil. Given the length of things to look at, I would be very
tempted to just pull the alternator and have it tested by a good
shop. They can easily tell you full output, ripple voltage and
regulated voltage all at various RPMs. The testers at your typical
FLAPS can not do this.
And of course when it is off the car, it would seem silly to me to
not put in new bearings and brushes unless you know they are very new.
