[V8] Who Works on ECUs?

I should second Steve's statement about the complexity of changing chips
in these motronic ECUs. My 5-speed ECU got drenched and was, as far as
I was concerned, unfixable. Luckily Audi Connection hooked me up with a
replacement for a great price, and I was off and running. But just for
the halibut I dis/re-assembled my old one, and I wouldn't do it again --
not on one I plan to actually use.
After all the trouble of finding a fix for yours (not to mention the
unsure-ness of whether or not it's actually fixed right), I think the
safe money is with a used one. And if a 5-speed version is unavailable,
perhaps AC or someone can put you on a "waiting list", and use the auto
version in the interim. I believe Keith et al has made the
determination that there is different mapping between the 5-speed and
automatic ECUs, and it's possible (probable?) that that's where your
high idle comes from.
