[V8] Crank Oil Seal extractor 3203?

So after some dinner I realized that the crank oil seal extractor (3203)should be able to be used to remove the oil pump seal as well. 
   
  Can anybody explain how this thing works?
   
  I suppose you thread the tapered end into the seal, but what is the inner threaded part do, and how does it pull the seal?
