High folks, just a quick update - I'm at Goodwood Festival of Speed, and I thought I'd give you an Audi update:
Audi display - impressive, for Audi. New RS4 wagon, S4, S8 V10 (audi cermaic brakes a cool touch), S6 V10, S1 Pikes Peak on display, around back they have an RS2, urRS4 and RS6 plus - all avants, as they should be - on display. I was really happy to see a coupe quattro (NON turbo) rally car - factory job - running up the hill. Sounded like my car! Very quick, neato. Also, a freshly restored S1 was running up the hill. The other notable "audis" were the three Auto Unions - 1 type D, 1 type D replica, and a type C. McNish drove the C at speed - very, very cool.
For non audis, there were countless (as expected) unreal cars. Ferrari FXX won the cool supercar contest, the Veyron wasn't driven in anger today. Lambo Muria display was uber cool, neat to see a Ro80 NSU on display in the Cartier Concours - shown as one of the most influential cars. Rubbing shoulders with some big names! A Ferrari Fiorano crashed which was fairly amusing, and Nigel Mansell crashed his Lotus, but not badly. Kovalainin made the fastest run ever up the hill, unofficially - his time was somewhere around 40 seconds - 10 seconds faster than anyone else - in the Renault F1. They made the Renault play songs while running - VERY neat. Neat to see the Ferrari 250 GTOs running up the hill at speed, along with countless other priceless cars and race cars. I could name them all for you, but it would take hours and countless lines. Figure this: F1/Grand Prix significant: Ferrari, Lotus, Liger, Williams, Cooper, Benneton, JPS, Mercedes Benz, McLaren, Delage,
Bugatti, Renault, Maserati, some obsure, Stewart, Moss, Mass, Raiokkonen, Fisi, Gurney, Brabham, Senna (the new one), a few others I'm forgetting, all the F1 backup drivers. Can-Am McLaren, Porsche, March, Lola - 9.3 liters of burnout. Touring cars - Mercedes, BMW, Ford, Lancia, Renault, Nissan, Reid set the fastest time in the Primera, only to be broken by the McLaren MP4, then again by the March 9.3 Liter Can-Am. Group C Porsche, Nissan. So, so much more - and that's just the race cars - the street cars are equally unreal.
I could go on for a while, but I'm probably wasting some of your time...
Off again to watch tomorrow - look for me waving on speed -
