Sorry I was adding the SEC line to the list, which did go to the 560. My experience was with the (apparently rebadged) 450SLC, which was quite quick and unique looking. The few times I've seen the SLC cars for sale, they seemed to command a premium, unless they were rustheaps. I had a chat with a MB mechanic about one a long time ago and he indicated that it was best to buy the best one as they have a lot of unique components... It was my understanding that they had a slightly stretched wheelbase over the SL, but shorter than the S sedans.

The SLC was an answer to a question nobody asked, the convertible SL's
came with a hardy removable hardtop. The only selling point for the SLC
was "4" Seats...ah, yeah, OK, maybe in munchkin land those rear seats had
some use. The model had a short run by Mercedes standards, the 380SLC
closed out the model in 1981. They were imported into the US in 1972 as
the 350SLC, even though those cars had a 4.5L engine, subsequently the US
cars sold as the 350SLC were rebadged to 450SLC by US dealers, foreign
sold 4.5L cars kept the 350SLC badges. No such thing as a 560SLC, and
even the few US SLC's that came with the 5L V8 were still badged as
450SLC's here and 500SLC elsewhere.
There isn't much of a following for these cars, they've always been a
hard sell in the used car market, so much so, that many an SLC has had
the top chopped and turned into a convertible, even after the conversion
cost it was still cheaper than a real SL back in the day.
A friend has a 1972 350SLC (mit the 4.5) and it's a blast to drive, it's
FAST and drives more like 'merican muscle car than euro cruiser.

I was nothing more than an almost innocent bystander.
