Actually Roger, the SLC was turned into a factory Rally car by Merc, and one of their few - and very sucessful - racing ventures between Le Mans 55 and Group C/Touring cars in the mid-eighties.
   
  However, they are but ugly.  We've got a 71 280SL 4 speed in the family, and it's hard to imagine that they're related.  Then again, I look at my GT, and it's hard to imagine that it's related the the TT, so there we go.
