Thanks to everyone that replied. Most of you were dead on with your responses. As always, the list is great.

A piece of that "donut" did break off so I am in the market for one. If anyone has one, please e-mail me privately. Thanks again all. The car is drip free and no longer has the "sacrificial smoke" thing goin on. It's great.

On an even better note, Ingo is in town for a couple of weeks. The wife and I picked him up last night in the V8 and went out for dinner. If you have not met Ingo yet, make it a point to meet the guy if he is ever in your neck of the woods. Nice guy, super knowledgeable, and the wife gives him a thumbs up. What else can I say? He's simply a good guy. Tony Hoffman will vouch for that. Hey Tony, feel free to chime in whenever you are not driving half way across the country 3 times a week or flying back, ok?

Hey Zay,

there is a foam plug ... I call it a "donut" ... that inserts into the oversized firewall hole and through which the steering rack/steering column junction passes. If this is missing I could see why you are expering more engine noise ... the last time I did the rack on the "black beauty" I found this plug to be missing ... and it is definitely shown in the manual.

Regards,
Paul

No more puddle!!! I am happy since this guy I found seems to have done
a good job with the rack. I have to go back today so he can straighten
out the steering wheel since it is a bit off to the right. He said it
would take 10 minutes to do. He did find the tie rod bolts to be very
loose on the car so he said he went ahead and tightened everything up.
Car does feel a bit more solid.

Here's the question: Is there any kind of insulation that is removed
when the rack is done? I could swear I am hearing more engine and
tranny noise (even a possible vacuum leak) then before therefore the
cabin is not as quiet. I am going to see the mechanic in about 2-3
hours so can anyone give me some ideas? If he forgot to install
something back or got lazy I would really like to know.

Happy about the non-leaking rack, a bit uneasy as to the engine and
tranny noise in the cabin.
