Jeff,
Not to dissuade people from replacing failing sensors (always a good idea
when the sensor is 12-17 years old (yep, 17 years for a lot of 1990 V8's
manufactured in '89), but I have often found that a good sensor can mimic a
bad one when the electrical connection is dirty or otherwise compromised.
Still, keep an eye out for any other not-so-funny engine behavior.
