foam is perfect for all these, except the cables, that would be silly ;)
use expanding foam sprayed into the crankcase to stop oil leaks, also effective on radiator/hose leaks.
cut disks of styrofoam from the sides of a cooler to make ultralightweight street/competition rotors.
use the old lid from the cooler as a seat cushion.
oh, and you can even cut a really sweet rear wing from the foam packing of a tv set box...
...ummmm... ok who hid my pills?!!?

Subject: [V8] update on radio button return springs
Just an fyi on the radio button return spring repair. Couldn't find any place
that sold the damn button springs, so tried Walt Harder's suggestion of
substituting a piece of packing foam for the spring. Whittled out a little
rod of packing foam, a small cell type used in packing lenses, put it in
place and it works great. Kudos to the V8 list for a neat solution.
George with a radio that holds a station now.
Now if only the same stuff could stop those damn oil leaks, replace the front
rotors, emergency parking brake cable, and seat cushion.
