... strange problems ... 

The engine in #344 is making an awful noise ... it is a rhythmic squawking sound ... almost sounds like an A/C compressor.  I haven't tried very hard to isolate it, but it sure sounds like it is coming from the front area of the left head.  AFAIK all the bearing surfaces for the cam are oil type clamshell, not ball/roller bearings.  Of course it may be a belt, but I don't think so ... 

I thought I'd post a quick note to see if there was any BTDT on this sort of thing.  I was actually thinking about trying to run the engine with the valve cover removed ... I suppose at the very least I could look for a lack of lube ...
