[V8] New wheel bearing play

Fellow audifans,
I just pressed in a new wheel bearing in the strut
housing of my v8.  Now I can feel play in the bearing.
 It moves back and forth slightly. It turns just fine
and doesnt make any noise but it has play back and
forth.  Did I scew up the bearing when I pressed it in
or is this normal?  I replaced the other side a few
months ago and that doesn't seem to have nearly as
much play.  I was very careful not to press in the
bearing using the center race, but perhaps I did some
how damage it or maybe its defective.  I haven't put
the strut housing back on the car and am pondering
putting in another bearing, but I would prefer not to
spend another $40.  Anyone have any suggestions?
