I finally decided to inspect my steering damper and as suspected, it was toast.
Absolutly no resistance at all. I also found that the rack boot was torn - so
now the rack is on the garage floor. It does not appear to be leaking at all so
I think I will just replace the boot and call it good. I noticed in the manual,
it says to grease the rack with some special stuff. Anybody know what it might
be?
Is there a seal kit or something like that that I can put in myself or should I
just stop with the boot?
Whoda thunk that rack would come out through the tie rod hole. It looks
impossible. Took about 3 hours to get out, and as usual I removed more stuff
than most others seem to. I pulled both distributors and coils, the wire tray,
the fuel lines, and anything else that got in the way.
And Pasha - I accidently deleted the link to your source for piston rings. Would
you mind posting it again?
thx
Dave
