[V8] FW: oil leak

The Bose system is basically "nice" junk compared to decent aftermarket like
Infinity speakers and MTX amps. So I got rid of that stuff.

On my v8 system I have a trunk floor mounted (spare cover) sealed subwoofer
system like we build for the 928's. There is good volume cap in the spare
well so the bass is unreal.

Engine cold, increased clearance - oil returns down valve seals
Engine hot - oil returns down proper head drains.

Use low viscosity oil synthetic and it will drain faster - causing less to
hit the chamber when cold.

  Hey Paul

I'm not sure why my orginial reply doesn't show up on the V8 Forum ?

I did turn in the head bolts a little a year ago and it didn't do anything
. I think when I get around to doing my T Belt I will pull the heads off and
put a new H gasket in. I will also have to do the Valve seals in this car .
If I start the car up and move it a few feet and then later in the day go
and move it again it will smoke on start up. If I drove the car for 15 mins
and go to restart there is no smoke . Ah these V8's there is always
something to do or learn. Right now I'm replacing all the capicitors in the
Amps ( Speakers ) Not a hard job once you find all the information and do
some reading up on it. Do you have a Bose system ?

  cheers

I put the splash shield system in as well...however, being in the
country any smell - exhaust, oil burn is amplified.

So after a run the even vapors from the hot block smell up the garage.

My service record shows new headgaskets at about 40K miles. I think when
the car hit 70K miles the first owner said enough is enough.
The dealer set him up with an A8 and essentially wholesaled the V8 to me
on a "no come backs" condition.

The leak slows when the block expands which leads me to believe if the
head bolts are tightened say a 1/4 turn it will slow the flow at least 50%.

My theory is which such a short engine there is not quite the
traditional surface area there to seal the oil passage.

      Paul

My V8 has the same sort of leak as yours ... I have tried to source it
and felt that it was leaking were the cyl head meets the block. I have not
fixed the leak, but I've stopped getting this comment " hey your cars smokin
" I put a simple metal plate over the crossover ( exhaust ) this way there
is no more smoke .....
