Ouch!  That must be dealer list price. You might be able 
to find a used one at an automotive boneyard/junkyard/
wrecker.  I would guess that the relay might be common
among a few different Audi and VW models. 

And if your is really dead, you have nothing to lose by
opening it up to see if it can be repaired.
