... boy do I have BTDT on this one!!!
Remember a while back I posted about a sale on a pressurized bleeder kit on JCW? I bought it with the expectation that it would come with a pressure cap ... WRONG! They have a fitting that wedges into the opening on the top of the MC ... which is great if you've got access to both holes ... but on the V8 you can't do that without completely removing the reservoir ...
What I found when I drilled a hole in the middle of the yellow cap that came with my car is that there's a teeeny, tiiiny, itsy bitsy vent hole at the periphery of the cap. This vent does a great job of spraying brake fluid around the inside of the engine compartment when you happen to provide a pressurized supply of DOT4 ... Grrrrrr!
Of course the previous paragraphs are chronologically reversed ... I bought the bleeder because I had a problem with the cap. Well, since the bleeder didn't have a cap I went back to my original plan. I found a brass fender washer and large round rubber washer that I could fit inside the cap and seal the pee hole ... this solution works for me.
My original plan was to get one of the black reservoir caps from a 5000 which have the float and level sensor built in. I suspect the hole that the level sensor comes out through suffices as the vent as well, plus it has a nice hole right where you want it after you break off the level sensor ... but since I didn't have a spare around I did not have a chance to test.
I checked around a couple FLAPS and asked my BiL (who works at one) ... no joy for me in my exploits there ...
HTH!
