IF you're talking about the connector @ the heater valve, it was for a
temp sensor which was used to keep the valve closed until the coolant was
at a certain temperature.  Basically useless and can be disconnected with
no problems.  Most later type 44's came with the connector from the
factory.  The heater valve with connector was dropped and the same part
number will get you the vacuum heater valve sans connector.

Heater Valve should be changed as a maintenance item, every three or four
years, they tend to blow at the worse possible time if you let them go
too long.  Many a lister has found this out the hard way.
