[V8] Throttle cable Kickdown Switch Q

Hey Ingo,

Hope you had a nice Thanksgiving.

Swap the cable, just be careful not to damage the 'good one'. It is sooo
worth it to have a functional kick down switch; I drove around for several
months without this function and when I finally fixed it, I had forgotten
how much fun the V8Q was to drive. ;-)

For those of you playing along at home, Audi built the kick down switch into
the accelerator cable (and the stealership wants ~$100 IIRC!) It is like a
barrel that sits just on the other side of the firewall. This barrel is a
spring and when you 'step on it', the accelerator cable not only operates
the butterfly valves in the throttle body, but also compresses this spring
and at about 3/4 throttle, operates the switch telling the TCU to kick down.
Ingenious (read *expensive*) design.

The eyelet and 2 brown wires (and associated connector) come through the
firewall through a square hole, and the plastic fingers snap into place and
hold it there. The barrel part fails after time, but is also easily damaged
during a rack replacement, alignment, power steering hose replacement, etc.
Be careful if you are working in this area. ;-)

Cheers,

- Jeremy

Subject: [V8] Throttle cable Kickdown Switch Q

So since I've apparently taken care of my oil leak, I decided to
troubleshoot my lack of throttle downshift. Yes, the kickdown switch
isn't triggering. So has anyone tried to fix this? Is it worth
taking the throttle cable out of my spare '90 V8 and installing it in
my '93? I understand it's a bit of a pain...

Ingo
