This is the second post, listmeister might consider booting Mickey's
Minion and keeper of the frozen head to the curb. Luckily our cars are
rare enough that we don't get buried in these things. Some car lists
have had to go to pre-approval for all posts because of this.
I really don't mind active listers posting their cars/parts/first born
for sale or trade here, this is completely different from people who only
subscribe to use this forum as a free classified ad.

And why isn't it in the Marketplace instead of on the email list?

... are you sure that this is the subframe bolts? I had the bushing at the subframe where the link that attaches to the bottom of the strut deteriorate and that gave me a "clunk" sound when going over large bumps.

I'm glad to see "The List" put their listings on the Audi E-mail List. My last three V8's were purchased from listers who gave us a 1st shot at them before putting them out to the public.

You know, if you're looking for something, you can subscribe to the
Audifans.com Marketplace and get notices of every new posting. And, as Cobram
noted, this one wasn't from someone on-list who participates here and probably
takes care of his car himself.

So, I am in the process of do a major overhaul of the serp belt "System" and as usual, I THOUGHT I had everything in-hand to get the project done when I started. Tis' not the case......

I have the passenger side timing belt cover off (amongst other things) so I can replace the big spring that provides the tensioning force on the serp belt. Well, once you have that whole mechanism apart, there are two needle bearing that are pressed into the timing belt cover. These bearings are around the shaft that passes through the timing belt cover and attach to the lever on the OUTSIDE of the cover. The serp belt roller then bolts to that lever and does the tensioning duties on the belt.

Now, has anyone ever replaced those needle bearings? Mine are so BEYOND dry that they are almost impossible to turn. ETKA turns up NOTHING on those bearings. They aren't depicted with the timing belt cover or with the serp belt parts. I can only assume that Audi would like you to buy the entire P/S timing belt cover to get them. I am sure they could be pressed out, dimensions taken and my local bearing shop could help. However, with my luck (or knowing Audi), the chances of them being some odd size that no one has ever seen or heard of, is pretty great.

I am doing EVERY stinkin' part that could possibly be associated with the serpentine belt from the plastic sleeve inside the tensioning spring to the fan clutch! It would be a shame to leave these simple little needle bearings out of the equation at this point. So, if anyone can point me in the right direction or provide a part number (Audi or otherwise) that would be much appreciated.

I was just cruising down the road, when the CC blower started running at
max speed. No buttons had been pushed to initiate this. Other climate
control functions, like temperature and which ducts, seem to work OK.
But I am unable to control the blower other than by pulling the fuse.

I tried swapping in a known good CC control head, with no change in
behavior.

I'm wondering if there is a stuck relay somewhere? I looked at two
relay/fuse panels in the passenger footwell, but did not see any relay
related to the blower motor. I don't know if there are any other relay
clusters and I can't find my manual right now.

Gene,

Get the Climate Control into diag mode (off + outside temp) and check
the interior temp sensor, if it can't determine what it "is" the CC unit
should tell the fan to go to high and depending on state, the heater
should come on (or the a/c).

There is a writeup on Chris Miller's Site (or SJM I forget..) on the
"how-to".

Good luck!

Scott

Time to think like a computer...

If you already tried a new control head, your choices are that somehow an input
to the head is bad - causing the fan to run on high
or
the power stage has shorted out. This is the most likely choice based on your
description. The power stage is mounted in the air duct under the hood,
passenger side and near the A/C evaporator. I am pretty sure it is the same part
from other type 44 cars too - so a new or junk yard replacement should be easy
to find. (it is a Delco part too)

If you have the wiring diagrams, you can probably see with a volt meter that the
fan is on when the inputs to the power stage say it should be off.

That bearing doesnt get much wear - can't you just clean it up and re-grease it?
You can probably get it nice and clean with a can of spray carb cleaner.
I have a vague memory of doing that to mine.
