[V8] V8 springs

Scott,

If you're looking for the ultimate handling, why not go for some coilovers? Adjustable height and spring rates mean a lot of the issues you're concerned about would be negated. Don't like the spring rates? Jack up the car, pop the shock out, slide on a new spring. I run 400/300lb spring in my GT, and the ride is punishing, but it's also got a 2400lb curb weight, so that might explain it :-)

As for the S6/V8 cross reference - check your numbers. The S4/S6 weigh in around 50 lbs less than a V8 - not very much difference, really (at least, according to Audiworld historical). Anything that works well on the S4/S6 should work the same on a V8.

That said, my cousin put H&R and Koni setup in his 94 S4. He used the V8/S4/S6 springs (29921?). The ride is stiff, but very acceptable. The largest problem, I would say, is that with 144,000 miles on the car, the spring/shock setup has begun to work little bits loose in his dashboard, which now squeeks. Something to take into consideration, I guess!

Seriously, though, if money isn't much of an object, the coilover route is the way to go. Huge gains for the added money up front.

  Carter
